NORWALK, CT — Norwalk diners looking for fresh seafood, creative cocktails or simply a nice place to hang out on the roof when the weather is nice can now make a trip to The Pompano, a recent new addition to the South Norwalk restaurant scene.

Located at 16 North Main Street in the former Evarito's space, Owner Christian Burns cited South Norwalk's vibrant community, diverse dining scene and proximity to the water as some of the reasons the area was a perfect fit for his new coastal seafood eatery.

"The influx of new apartments in the area can mean a growing population looking for dining options," Burns said to Patch. "The Pompano also benefits from this demographic by offering them a convenient and enticing dining experience. Plus, being located nearby could make it a go-to spot for residents looking for a delicious meal without traveling far."

Burns is no stranger to Connecticut dining, having operated The Ginger Man in Greenwich and the former Cask Republic taverns throughout Fairfield and New Haven counties, as well as Evarito's prior to its closing in January.

The Pompano's menu is prepared by Executive Chef Franz Fruhmann, whose credits include Bouley and Raoul's in New York City, North Star in Pound Ridge, N.Y., and The Dressing Room in Westport, according to additional press materials provided by the restaurant.

Diners can enjoy highlights such as bluefin tuna tartare with tomato concassé, avocado mousse and soy, caviar service with classic accompaniments or a warm crab and asparagus salad to start. Made-to-order sushi is also prepared at the restaurant's sushi bar.

In addition to lobster rolls every which way, customers can sample seafood entrees such as halibut with artichoke puree, roasted peppers and meyer lemon or fresh linguine and clams draped in garlic, white wine, lemon and parsley.

Guests who prefer a customized dining experience can enjoy The Pompano's "simple market fish" section that allows them to choose any market fish, to be prepared wood-grilled or sautéed, along with two side dishes of their choice.

In addition to seafood, the restaurant boasts offerings such as a wood-fired 14oz prime strip served with Pompano fries, spinach and chimichurri or a comfort food dish of roast chicken with spinach, pureed potatoes and natural jus.

The restaurant also emphasized their efforts to "consistently [strive] to responsibly source from local purveyors and trusted sustainable fisheries," according to the press materials.

"Our versatility is one of our strengths," Burns said, "whether you're seeking a refined fine dining experience or a more relaxed evening out for drinks and a bite to eat, we have you covered. Our menu offers something for every palate, from beautifully crafted dishes to shareable plates perfect for enjoying with friends over cocktails. You can experience the best of both worlds at The Pompano."

The Pompano also features a rooftop where customers can dine or just enjoy a drink and hangout while taking in views of Long Island Sound and the surrounding area. Full bar service is available on the rooftop along with raw bar items, sushi and seafood fare such as lobster rolls, crab cakes and more.

The rooftop is scheduled to open in mid-to-late May, according to Burns. Sunday brunch will also begin in May, featuring a unique menu and special brunch cocktails.

"I believe we stand out among other restaurants in the area by offering a unique combination of coastal seafood cuisine, a cozy and inviting atmosphere, exceptional service and our innovative menu offerings," Burns said. "Additionally, our rooftop dining and bar scene is a significant differentiator for The Pompano. Rooftop dining offers a unique experience, providing patrons with beautiful views, summer seafood menu and drinks with family and friends."

The Pompano is open Wednesday-Sunday in South Norwalk. A full menu can be viewed here.

"If you're looking for a dining experience that combines delicious coastal cuisine, a welcoming atmosphere and stunning rooftop views," Burns said, "then The Pompano is the place for you."
