Retired Norwalk Police Officer Mourned By Department

John Buchholz​, a retired 21-year veteran of the Norwalk Police Department, has died, according to police.

NORWALK, CT — John Buchholz, a retired 21-year veteran of the Norwalk Police Department, has died, according to the department.

In a Facebook post Friday, Chief of Police Thomas Kulhawik said Buchholz died Feb. 24 at the age of 70. A resident of Endicott, N.Y., Buchholz joined the department on Aug. 7, 1975, and served for 21 years until his retirement on Nov. 18, 1996.

"It is with sadness that we share this announcement," the post reads. "We offer our sincerest condolences to John's wife, Teri, and John's friends and family on the loss of their loved one."

According to Kulhawik, Buchholz received many accolades over the course of his career for outstanding police and investigative work.

Buchholz was also recognized for his participation in bringing a burglary case to a successful close, during which he arrested two suspects charged with first-degree larceny, Kulhawik said.
