Retired Officer Mourned By Norwalk Police Department
Jose Melendez, a retired 24-year veteran of the Norwalk Police Department, has died, according to police.
NORWALK, CT — Jose Melendez, a retired officer who served the Norwalk Police Department for over 20 years, has died, according to police.
According to a post on the department's Facebook page, Melendez died Feb. 25 at the age of 68.
According to police, Melendez joined the department Aug. 24, 1978, and served the community for 24 years. He retired May 1, 2003.

Over the course of his career, Melendez was awarded Officer of the Month and received a Letter of Commendation, police said.
"We extend our heartfelt condolences to Jose's family and friends on the loss of their loved one," the post reads.
