'Smiling, Enthusiastic' Students Return To School In Norwalk
Superintendent Alexandra Estrella said she loved seeing so many smiling faces as everyone walked back into school this week.
NORWALK, CT — Though many consider Labor Day to be the official end of summer, students in Norwalk said goodbye to vacation and greeted the new school year with enthusiastic smiles as classes began Monday morning, according to district officials.
In a message to the district Monday night, Superintendent Alexandra Estrella said she believed this school year, her fourth as superintendent of Norwalk Public Schools, will be the best yet.
"The first day of school is always one of my favorite days of the year," Estrella said in her message. "Everyone has an extra pep in their step, excited to get back in the classroom, reconnect with old friends, and start the new year off right. I appreciate the opportunity to engage with our students and teachers and celebrate the new year together."

"We have had extra motor vehicle enforcement for back to school since last Monday, and our traffic unit has been diligently patrolling the city for these violations," Dinho said. "We expect a smooth start to the school year."

Estrella began the day at the district's bus depot, where she thanked school bus drivers for their dedicated service before they hit the road to pick up students.
"[Bus drivers] play an important role in making sure our children make it to school each day to learn and grow," Estrella said.
The superintendent also took time to visit 10 schools on their first day back in session and said she will continue to visit schools across the district throughout the week.
"I loved seeing so many smiling faces as everyone walked back into school," Estrella said. "I hope each of you keeps that enthusiasm throughout the school year as you get the opportunity to learn new things, make new friends and challenge yourself academically."
