NORWALK, CT — As is the case with other malls in Connecticut, The SoNo Collection will reopen on May 20, according to an announcement on the mall's website.

The announcement simply said "We're opening May 20th," but a post on the mall's Facebook page added that the operators missed customers, and that they were "taking the necessary steps to ensure you have a safe and worry-free visit."

Additional details of the plan were not disclosed. Patch reached out to a spokesperson with Brookfield Properties, the mall's operator, but has not received a reply.

Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling told Patch that Brookfield Properties is taking extensive precautions before reopening the mall.

"My team and I have been in frequent contact with The SoNo Collection about their reopening plans," Rilling said. "We had a really great call last week with them to learn more about their new protocols around physical distancing and sanitization. It's a really comprehensive plan. I am pleased they are taking this very seriously and have the proper protocols in place to protect the public when they visit."

The SoNo Collection in South Norwalk opened last October, but like other malls and retail establishments, it closed in March on orders from Gov. Ned Lamont due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Last week, Lamont announced that the state's phased reopening will begin on the 20th, and issued guidance to businesses on how to go about it.

The Stamford Town Center last week announced that it will reopen on May 20, as is the Connecticut Post Mall.

The Westfield malls in Trumbull and Meriden also announced plans to reopen on the 20th.
