Stew Leonard's Norwalk Store Renovations Almost Done, Grand Reopening Planned For June
A years-long renovation project at Stew Leonard's Norwalk store is nearly complete and a grand reopening is planned for June.
NORWALK, CT — A years-long renovation project at Stew Leonard's Norwalk store is nearing completion and a grand reopening is planned for this summer, according to store officials.
In an email to Patch, Stew Leonard's Spokesperson Meghan Bell confirmed Monday the major renovation project is almost finished.
"We are hoping that the construction should wrap up in the next few weeks," Bell said. "I understand that the roof will be completed by next week and they are finishing up some new office space upstairs."

Earlier this year, the store unveiled a new transformed entrance for customers featuring an indoor farmer's market and the musical stylings of Hank and Beau, a musical pair of animatronics who were relocated from the store's barbecue and hot foods area.
In a recent "Around the Store with Stew" newsletter, CEO Stew Leonard Jr. also noted work at the Norwalk store was nearly done and highlighted the addition of his father's Divco milk truck to the store's modified entrance.

The truck dates back to the 1950's, years prior to the Norwalk store's opening in 1969. Leonard noted the vehicle was previously parked on the road in front of the store, where it was difficult for customers to get close enough to see it.
He also confirmed plans to hold a grand-reopening for the Norwalk store in June and unveil a statue of Stew Leonard Sr., the grocery chain's founder who died in April at the age of 93.
"I love walking into the [Norwalk] store every day and being reminded of our family's history," Leonard said in a statement. "Our family is also planning a grand re-opening for the Norwalk store in June, and we'll unveil a bronze statue of my dad at that time. I know it'll be a really special moment for my mom."
Plans for the Norwalk store's expansion were first announced in summer 2021, and work has been moving along steadily since then. After working extensively on parts of the store's exterior in 2022, work inside the store began in early 2023.
