As construction continues on its flagship Norwalk store, Stew Leonard's is still finding fun ways to help customers celebrate Halloween.

NORWALK, CT — As construction continues on its flagship Norwalk store, Stew Leonard's is still finding fun ways to help customers celebrate the Halloween season this October.

The store, located at 100 Westport Avenue, recently opened its elaborate pumpkin patch display, where customers can choose from a wide variety of pumpkins both small and large among fun inflatable decorations.

Nicole Weiss, the Norwalk store's vice president, said the store received its first shipment of pumpkins just in time for Labor Day this year and encouraged customers to enjoy a fun seasonal shopping experience as they pick out a pumpkin.

"Customers should keep an eye out in our pumpkin patch for lots of family-friendly Halloween themed inflatables, plus our hay maze is back again this year," Weiss said to Patch. "This past summer's weather was perfect for growing big, beautiful pumpkins."

A major construction project has been underway at the Norwalk store since last year, with work continuing on a new farmer's market at the store's entrance this week.

Though the Norwalk store has typically hosted a haunted hayride and a Halloween drive-thru display in years past, they were unable to offer either activity this year due to the ongoing construction, Weiss said.

Despite this, the store still plans to offer other fun Halloween-themed activities this year for customers.

"We have a number of exciting events planned for this October, including pumpkin painting and kids' cooking classes," Weiss said. "Our annual trick-or-treat event is scheduled for Oct. 24, and all kids under age 12 who wear their Halloween costume to Stew Leonard's on [Oct. 31] will receive a free small ice cream cone at our ice cream parlor."

The Norwalk store will also host a "spooktacular costume breakfast" Oct. 29 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and transform its new garden center into a "haybale theater" for a movie night Oct. 27 at 7 p.m., according to the store's eventbrite.com page.

According to Weiss, offering these types of fun experiences at each Stew Leonard's stores has been important to the Leonard family since the store's beginnings.

The family-owned business currently operates stores in seven locations, including three Connecticut stores in Norwalk, Danbury and Newington, as well as New York and New Jersey stores.

"When Stew [Leonard] Sr. opened Stew Leonard's here in Norwalk in 1969, making it a fun place to shop for families was very important to him," Weiss said. "We are proud to continue that tradition today. We love watching families and children return year after year for our trick-or-treat events, tree lightings and egg hunts."
