Suspect Arrested in 2014 Stabbing: Norwalk Police
Officers who pulled over the suspect on suspicion of DUI discovered there was an outstanding warrant for the attack, police said.

NORWALK, CT — A DUI stop by police led to the warrant arrest of a 33-year-old Norwalk man on assault and kidnapping charges from an alleged December 2014 attack, according to police.
Arrested was Nelson Zelaya, of Knapp Street, on charges of first-degree Assault, second-degree Assault, first degree Kidnapping and Conspiracy, in connection with the Dec. 26, 2014, stabbing incident that allegedly occurred on Lexington Avenue near Kossuth Street.
According to a post on the department's Facebook page about Zelaya's arrest over the weekend, the incident unfolded as follows:

"On November 12, 2016, at 1:10 am, an officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Fort Point Street at Osborn Avenue," wrote police in a statement. "The operator, who stated his name was Nelson Zuniga, appeared to be intoxicated. An officer assigned to a DUI Enforcement detail responded to the scene and administered field sobriety tests, which Zuniga failed. It was then discovered that Zuniga had previously provided the last name Zelaya to the NPD. Zelaya was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant with the NPD. The warrant stemmed from a stabbing on Lexington Avenue near Kossuth Street on December 26, 2014."
In addition to the assault and kidnapping charges, Zelaya additionally was charged with Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol, Operating Under Suspension, and Failure Illuminate Rear Marker Plate.

He was held in lieu of a $500,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court this month.
