Three-Way Stop Sign Coming to Highland Intersection in Norwalk

The signs will be installed in the coming days at the corner of Highland and McKinley avenues.

Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff (D-Norwalk) announced that the state Department of Transportation will be installing a three-way stop sign at the intersection of Highland and McKinley avenues.

“This new stop sign will reduce the number of speeding cars in the neighborhood, improve the quality of life in the area and increase our students’ safety near Rowayton Elementary School,” Duff said. “I want to thank the neighborhood’s residents for their relentless advocacy in pursuit of safer streets and the Connecticut Department of Transportation for being responsive to the community’s needs.”

Duff said he has been a supporter of traffic calming measures in the area.

“This is a highly traveled section of state road that in its current state presents difficulties for both motorists and pedestrians attempting to navigate the area,” said Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling. “A 3-way stop sign is definitely needed and will significantly enhance safety in the neighborhood. Senator Duff recognizes this and has helped to make it a reality.”

Residents are also pleased with the news.

“This is a huge victory for child safety,” said Jody Sattler, who lives near the intersection. “The corner’s proximity to the school, baseball and softball fields, and the library means children of all ages, including mine, cross this intersection every day. I want to thank Senator Duff for helping to keep our children and families safe.”
