Victim ID'd in Fatal Rollover Crash on Merritt Parkway in Norwalk: State Police

The crash occurred Wednesday morning southbound between exits 41 and 40B.

NORWALK, CT — A 76-year-old Florham Park, NJ, man has been identified as the victim in Wednesday's fatal rollover crash on the Merritt Parkway in Norwalk, according to state police.

Robert G. Bearden was driving his 2008 Toyota Camry southbound between exits 41 and 40B just before 10:30 a.m. when the crash occurred. No other vehicles appeared to be involved but the crash remains under investigation.

"The weather conditions were clear and the traffic was light," wrote state police in a release. "The road surface was dry with some wet patches due to melting snow. For an undetermined reason, vehicle #1 traveled off of the roadway to the right and struck a large tree, which was located off of the roadway and right shoulder. Vehicle #1 then over-turned and came to rest on it's roof in the right lane. The operator/sole occupant was transported by Westport EMS to Norwalk Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased."
