NORWALK, CT — A bubble tea franchise offering a variety of menu items recently opened its newest location in the South Norwalk area of the city.

The Whale Tea held a grand opening of its 11 North Main Street shop Monday, Jan. 24, marking the addition of a Norwalk location to a franchise that already operates stores in Stamford, Fairfield, New Haven and Storrs.

According to owner May Lin, the Whale Tea team chose to open in Norwalk due to it being, in their opinion, one of the most energetic cities in the area.

"The first time we visited the property...we realized this was exactly what we wanted," Lin said in an email to Patch. "We love the French windows facing to the street, and at dusk the setting sun would come in through the windows. With high chairs, people can sit here to read, talk or just drift off for a while."

While downtown SoNo boasts a number of unique businesses, Lin said The Whale Tea fits into the location like a perfect puzzle piece, situated between The Blind Rhino and The Breakroom.

"We have a bar and a coffee shop as our neighbors," Lin said, "and if people want to try something sweet or fresh, The Whale Tea is a perfect choice, because all of our drinks are made with real and fresh ingredients."

Norwalk Chamber of Commerce president Brian Griffin agreed the bubble tea shop was a great addition to the South Norwalk area.

"The Whale Tea should prove to be a successful addition to the SoNo scene, providing bubble tea for its devotees, as well as other offerings," Griffin said. "We welcome this establishment to Norwalk and wish them all the best."

While there are many exciting options for customers to choose from, Lin recommends customers try their most popular item: brown sugar fresh milk/milk tea.

"Our brown sugar is 100 percent handmade and fresh," Lin said.

She also noted the Whale Tea team is very excited to be part of SoNo and hopes the store will be a place customers can stay for a while and hang out with their friends and family.

"We are very happy to be part of SoNo," Lin said.
