Widening I-95 Has Support, And Critics: Report

The state has approved funding to study the issue.

NORWALK, CT — Hundreds of thousands of vehicles travel along I-95 from Greenwich to New Haven each day, and to help with that congestion the state has approved funding to study the feasibility of widening much of the stretch, reports the Greenwich Time.

But the proposal of adding two lanes to I-95 from Greenwich to New Haven has its critics, who told the publication that other studies have shown that additional lanes don't alleviate traffic, they simply add to it. Through Norwalk alone, more than 150,000 vehicles travel along I-95 each day.

Others say the $1 million study is necessary to help create a comprehensive picture of the transportation needs of the whole corridor, rail, bus and roads.
