NORWICH, CT — Police say they seized six illegally operated motorized bikes and issued nine citations to operators during an enforcement effort this week.
Lt. Kyle Besse said the effort was in response to a recent surge of illegally operated all-terrain vehicles, dirt bikes, scooters and mini bikes.
Local police conducted the operation Thursday with assistance from the Connecticut State Police.
According to Besse, police focused on identifying illegally operated motorized bikes and addressing violations which could pose a safety risk to operators, pedestrians and motorists.
“Illegal operation of motorized bikes and similar vehicles can lead to serious crashes, injuries, and unnecessary risks for everyone sharing our roadways,” police said.
Police reminded residents to make sure their vehicles are legal for use on the road. The department also encouraged parents and guardians to closely monitor children’s use of motorized bikes, minibikes, dirt bikes, and similar vehicles to make sure they are being used legally and in appropriate locations.
