Ex-Norwich Firefighter Accused of Underaged Sexual Assault Appears in Court

He is accused of sexually assaulting underaged girls.

NEW LONDON, CT- A former Norwich firefighter facing sexual assault charges appeared in court Wednesday for a brief pretrial, the Norwich Bulletin reported.

Paul Barthelet, 45, faces charges of sexually assaulting at least three underage girls beginning a dozen years ago, the Norwich Bulletin reported. He was arrested in January after being accused of sexually assaulting the girls starting in 2004, 2008 and 2014 respectively.

Barthelet is a former firefighter with the East Great Plain Volunteer Fire Department in Norwich, as well as the Jewett City Volunteer Fire Department, the Norwich Bulletin reported. He is scheduled to return to court on Aug. 10.
