Deputy Chief James Caramante says it's already speeding responses, saving money for local businesses, and is especially valuable in a town with many seasonal homes.

β’ Amtrak Embarks on New Study, Stoking Decade-Old Concerns as Old Lyme Officials Seek Answers (lymeline.com) β Old Lyme officials are moving quickly to secure a strong voice in Amtrak's new twoβyear study of rail improvements between New Haven and Providence, fearing a repeat of past bypass proposals that threatened the town's historic core. The Historic District Commission is urging intensive public engagement, formal comment periods, and a local hearing, while Amtrak promises better outreach but has not ruled out controversial route options.

β’ Connecticut River train bridge replacement project is on track and on budget (theday.com) β Construction of the new Connecticut River rail bridge between Old Saybrook and Old Lyme is on schedule and within its $1.3 billion budget, with completion expected by 2031. The new span, just south of the existing bridge, will boost train speeds, reduce openings for boat traffic, and improve reliability on a key Northeast Corridor link that runs directly through Old Lyme.
