Alert Homeowner Helps Police Catch Burglar in Orange: Police

Orange police said an alert homeowner reported the suspicious vehicle in their driveway which led police to make an arrest quickly.

ORANGE, CT — A Guilford man was allegedly observed by an alert homeowner burglarizing their garage in Orange, police said.

Orange police officers responded to a private residence on Derby Avenue at 6:14 a.m. on July 25 in regard to a suspicious vehicle complaint, police said.

Officers learned that the homeowner observed a truck he did not recognize parked in his driveway, and someone, later identified as Christopher Kent, 43, of Race Hill Road in Guilford, taking items from his garage, and loading them into the truck, police said.

Officers located the truck a short distance away, and the stolen items were inside, police said. The driver, Kent, was taken into custody and charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal trespass and sixth-degree larceny.

Kent was originally held in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
