New Details Emerge About Future Of 'Stew Leonard' Site In Orange
Plans to develop the 'Stew Leonard' site has largely been kept secret but new details have just emerged.

ORANGE, CT — Plans for development of the 'Stew Leonard' property at 161 Marsh Hill Road have largely been shrouded in secrecy with very little known about the current proposal.
Some folks feared the developer, Scannell Properties LLC, planned a truck stop of sorts but this week new details emerged. Attorney John Knuff told the TPZC that the main building would be used as a distribution facility for various products, the New Haven Register reports.
A national company located currently in Milford is planning to relocate there, according to sources. The name of the company has not yet been publicly disclosed.

Knuff said the business will add lots of berms and landscaping to the site. Orange will see up to $700,000 annually in tax revenue. The business will be closed on weekends.
A nearly 50,000-square-foot distribution center is planned and a 10,000-square-foot maintenance building, the Register reports.

And as everyone who has been following the saga of the 'Stew Leonard' property in Orange knows, Leonard sought for nearly 15 years to develop his grocery store on the site but a group of local residents filed numerous legal motions that tied the issue up in courts.
Leonard several years ago threw in the towel on developing the property he owns in Orange and looked to expand elsewhere, especially in Long Island.
