Orange Approved Self Storage Facility

The self storage facility will be located on a small parcel in a light industrial zone.

ORANGE, CT — The Town Planning and Zoning Commission approved an application for a self-storage facility on Salemme Lane during its December meeting.

Applicant Montar Group LLC proposed a zoning regulation change to allow self storage facilities in the town’s light industrial 2 district. Most parcels in the district are large, but some small properties like the one on Salemme Lane remain, said applicant Attorney John Knuff during a November meeting on the proposal.

The facility will have approximately 800-1000 units and one main lobby, according to meeting minutes.

TPZC Chairman Oscar Parente said that the proposal seemed like a good fit for the small parcel.

“We aren’t going to get a manufacturing facility on a 3-acre parcel,” he said.

He also noted that the town’s plan of conservation and development contains language noting the importance of self storage facilities due to changing demographic needs and downsizing.
