Race Brook Country Club Named 'Best Golf (Private)' in Reader's Poll

Race Brook Country Club in Orange, Connecticut, which is recognized as one of the top private golf clubs in the state, has been voted by the readers of New Haven Living magazine as the 2015 Best Golf (Private) experience in their 3rd annual poll published in the August issue. In citing Race Brook for the honor, the publication stated: “Historic Race Brook Country Club is as popular for weddings and events as it is for golf on its 27-hole venue.”

“We are so pleased that the readers of New Haven Living have voted Race Brook for the distinction as the best private golf club in the area for 2015,” said General Manager Jack Kealey. “The poll validates the hard work by our grounds, golf and clubhouse staffs to keep a high standard of excellence here. Race Brook, established in 1912, was founded and designed by Scottish native Robert D. Pryde. Pryde learned to play golf at his home course, Scotscraig Golf Club, and was apprenticed there as a club repairer and clubmaker. He immigrated to the United States in 1892, settled in New Haven and later Orange, became Yale University’s first golf coach and found himself a sought after golf course architect. To celebrate its centennial, Race Brook forged a sister club relationship with Scotscraig, the world’s 13th oldest golf club.

Race Brook Country Club enjoys a proud history and has hosted numerous state and regional tournaments as well as legendary professional golfers, such as Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson, Patty Berg and Tom Watson.
