Shelton Native Safe in Nepal Following Deadly Earthquake

A Shelton native and graduate of Shelton High School is safe after the powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Nepal, the Connecticut Post reports.
Kristin Parker along with her husband and children are at the U.S. Embassy.
Parker has lived in Nepal with her family for the past 10 year, the Post reports. They work on development projects for the International Missionary Board, a non-governmental agency affiliated with the Southern Baptist Church.

The massive quake struck shortly before noon local time on Saturday with the epicenter about 50 miles from Kathmandu, causing buildings to collapse, setting off avalanches on Mount Everest and creating chaos throughout the region. The quake and aftershocks could be felt as far away as New Delhi. According to USA Today, at least 1,400 people died in Nepal and the death toll is rising. Hospitals are overflowing with patients and medical personnel are treating the injured in the streets.
