Oxford Reveals Proposed Sewer Rates

Residential users would pay a $535 annual flat fee, while businesses would be charged based on usage.

OXFORD, CT — Oxford officials have released the proposed sewer rates that will be discussed and potentially approved Wednesday night.

The proposal would set an annual flat fee of $535 for residential sewer users. Nonresidential customers would pay 1.38 cents per gallon, with a minimum annual charge of $535.

The town's Water Pollution Control Authority will hold a public hearing at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at Oxford Town Hall. A regular meeting will follow at 7 p.m., when the authority is scheduled to discuss and vote on the changes.

Patch previously reported that the authority was considering a new fee structure, but the proposed rates were not included in the meeting records available at the time.

The new hearing notice says residential customers would continue to receive a flat annual bill. Businesses and other nonresidential users would be charged according to the amount of sewage they discharge, although they would pay at least $535 each year.

Nonresidential customers would have the option of metering their sewage outflow, according to the proposal.

Annual bills would be due Nov. 1, but customers could pay in two installments. The first would be due Nov. 1 and the second April 1.

The proposal also updates several definitions in Oxford's sewer regulations, including separate definitions for residential and nonresidential users.

No vote will be taken during the public hearing itself. The authority's regular meeting agenda calls for a vote afterward.
