📰 News we're reading

• Oxford Approves Spending Request After Overtime Debate (patch.com) — Oxford residents may want to know that selectmen unanimously approved a spending request that includes nearly $140,000 for police overtime, after questions about why costs are rising despite more officers on staff. Officials stressed that much of the overtime is reimbursed by outside contractors and agreed to show those offsets more clearly, while also debating whether a town planner could help reduce mounting legal expenses.

• 150-Unit Oxford Apartment Hearing Set (patch.com) — Oxford residents are being invited to a key public hearing on October 20 at Oxford High School about a proposed 150-unit Little River Apartments complex on Oxford Road, including 45 long-term affordable units. The developer is seeking zoning changes under Connecticut's 8-30g law, and local officials say they're weighing traffic on Route 67, infrastructure capacity, and broader development impacts before any decision is made.
