Vacation or Staycation? We Should Be Thankful For Either

Where is your favorite place to vacation, or are you staying here in Connecticut this summer?

What's your favorite place to vacation? Ah, vacation. It's really nice to get away, but it's always nice to come back home again.

Last week my husband and I went up to Maine to one of our favorite spots on York Beach, which is the southern part of Maine and only about a four hour drive. The water was freezing ( sometimes it doesn't get above the 60s) so it takes awhile to get used to and your feet get so cold that they ache. But it's a time to be out in the fresh air and our hotel was right across from the beach and also had three pools in which to frolic in.

I love lobster (they say Lobstah up there) so I was in lobster heaven for the week I was there. We even stopped at a roadside stand and bought a half dozen, bagged them in ice, threw them in our cooler and and brought them back to Oxford with us. We not only had fresh lobster, I made a lobster salad and then lobster bisque.

We are very lucky to be able to go away on vacation. With the economy like it is, many people just can't afford it. Many just go on vacation for a weekend because they can't afford to stay for a week. A family from New York that we met said this was by far the most expensive year they can remember. The couple had four children and said that they went out for dinner at a casual place on the waterfront, they spent $170! The guy said they didn't even have drinks.

Many of my friends said they are not taking a vacation this year out of state, but instead are staying (they call it a staycation) right here in Oxford and will be hanging out at catching up on their summer reading.

I'm thankful that we are able to get away every once in awhile and that we arrived there safely and got home safely. I'm also extremely thankful for my neighbors who watched our house, took in our papers and mail and even watered the garden.

Check out the attached photos from the trip.
