Although studies show more than 70% of people over the age of 65 will need some form of Long Term Care (LTC), many people are not aware of the insurance alternatives to pay for the care. With nursing home costs in the State of Connecticut now exceeding $148,000 per year for a semi-private room, most people cannot afford to self-fund this cost. And with the expectation that many of today’s seniors will live well into their 90’s, it makes sense to include LTC in a family’s financial plan.

Also, it is a common misconception that LTC insurance is unaffordable to all but the wealthiest people. And, in the past, the specter of insurance premium increases has discouraged many from taking out policies. Fortunately, current policies are designed to avoid such high increases.

Plans are available up to the age of 85; people in their 50’s and younger are eligible for plans with very attractive rates and benefits. Savings up to 30% or more are also available to married couples and individuals in committed relationships.

The Connecticut Partnership for LTC Program will also be discussed. It is the premier program to provide LTC through private insurance and also protect some or all of a senior’s assets.

In addition, plans are available that pay for LTC but leave the value to family members or other beneficiaries should none or only a part of the LTC benefit be used.

Also, with the growing limitation on government funding for senior care, the concept of filial responsibility is spreading as governments look to children to pay for their parents’ LTC. Protecting against this possibility via affordable LTC will be discussed.

There will be ample time for questions and informative literature about LTC will also be available.

Tours of Brandywine will also be offered after the presentation.

Mr. Steve Ardussi is an independent, licensed life and health insurance broker who focuses on helping individuals, families and small business deal with health insurance, Medicare plans and LTC insurance. Rather than being restricted to one insurance carrier, Ardussi works with all the carriers to insure each client finds the plan that best suits their needs and budget.

Ardussi is certified by the State of Connecticut to offer and sell Connecticut Partnership LTC policies offered by several national insurance carriers. These plans provide inflation protected LTC insurance that also protects a senior’s assets.

Please note: There will be no sales or solicitations at the workshop--- just information to help you understand this complex topic.
