This Veterans Day the bank is proud to remind the community of the service of Joseph Jeanette, Michael Gray, Dennis Cormier, Don Stabile and Joseph Butler. You can learn more about the details of their stories at www.nvsl.com/hero, but to tell you a bit about them: one 2014 honoree fought in World War II’s Battle of the Bulge.
A second honoree—a former staff sergeant in the Air Force in the 1950s—later raised six children; went to college at night while working full-time; and rose to a vice president position during a 30 year career at a Waterbury company.

A third honoree, a Derby native, joined the Marines on December 7, 1941, the day Pearl Harbor was bombed.
A longtime Naugatuck resident, the fourth military honoree joined the Naval Reserves as a 17-year-old high school senior and spent years on an attack troop transport ship. The final honoree just completed his 36th year in the U.S. Army and has won more than 15 military awards.
In addition to honoring their stories, Naugatuck Valley Savings and Loan has donated a total of $2,500 to the Wounded War Project--$500 each in the name of the five honorees. Additionally $500 to honor bank employee and family members who have served in the United States military has been donated to local veterans groups.
“We can’t thank our military service men and women enough, but we can try,” says the bank’s President and CEO William C. Calderara. “The Thank You, Red, White & Blue program is Naugatuck Valley Savings and Loan’s way to show appreciation for a few of the countless men and women, past and present, who have served in a United States armed service with distinction.“
Among the major goals of the Wounded Warrior Project is honoring wounded warriors, raising awareness and enlisting the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members.
