New Art Exhibit at Oxford Town Hall

Paintings in oil and watercolor by artist Donna Brumbergs.

Editor’s Note: The following news release is from the Oxford Cultural Arts Commission.

Paintings in oil and watercolor by artist Donna Brumbergs will be on exhibit in the Oxford Cultural Arts Council Oxford Town Hall Gallery through the month of May.

A talented painter, Donna Brumbergs says “My artwork is intended to connect to an individual’s sense of well-being and familiarity so that they welcome it into their lives. I hope my work will invoke the reminiscence of a comfortable moment from the past that they will want to revisit time after time. The value of that accomplishment motivates me as an artist.”

Donna explores the link between mood and color; her paintings evoke a sense of pleasure and comfort through the manipulation of light sources. She is inspired by the emotion of the underlying aspects of everyday life, like the scene of a quiet street corner or the view from a window during dusk.  Donna hopes that viewers of her art can envision themselves in the scene, grow from the experience, and learn to appreciate things they might otherwise overlook.

This body of work covers a period of two years where she experimented with aspects of realism and impressionism. Recently she experimented with the process of plein air painting. Donna spent several months painting on location where she developed a series of New England landscape studies, several of which were further developed into larger scale studio paintings. The urgency of capturing the fleeting light or approaching storm inspires the development of the loose painterly brush style that she desires in her work.
