Oxford Brewery Settles Lawsuit In State PD Sergeant Crash: Report

The lawsuit alleged that the brewery overserved the sergeant prior to the crash.

OXFORD, CT — Black Hog Brewing has settled a lawsuit after a mother and daughter sued, alleging the brewery overserved a State police sergeant who crashed his cruiser into their car while off duty.

The brewery settled for $225,000, according to NBC Connecticut.

Lisa and Madison Conroy were injured in a Sept. 25 crash after Sgt. John McDonald ran a stop sign on Route 188 near Airport Road and crashed his state vehicle into the other car, causing significant damage. McDonald was arrested in November and charged with DUI, second-degree assault with a motor vehicle and reckless driving.

McDonald was seen on surveillance video at the brewery consuming what appeared to be eight beers in less than three hours, according to an arrest warrant. He also bought what appeared to be other beers, but isn't known if he consumed them.

The story was first reported by the Republican-American newspaper, which has reported that several State police personnel were at a retirement party at the brewery. Police have launched an internal investigation.
