Oxford Grange

Recent activities of Oxford Grange #194

The Grange in Oxford continues to grow with new members. As more people join, it is becoming easier to do projects in the community. By fall, we anticipate completion of the handicapped ramp on the hall, thanks to the donated labor of Oxford Selectman Jeff Haney. Grange treasurer Raye Hodgson has been working on establishing a garden landscape around the hall with ornamental as well as producing fruit and vegetable species. This is a work in progress.

The G.O.M.A.D group, Grange of Oxford Music and Dance, holds a potluck and dance night the last Friday of each month since January. It was started by a few Grange members and some non-members to carry on a tradition begun by Bethany resident and dance caller Bill Fischer, called B.M.A.D., which was formerly held on his farm in Bethany.

During the winter and spring, the Grange hosted a series called "Green gold and Other Treasures," which focused on explaining and illustrating concepts of the perma-culture methodology of growing food producing plants while minimizing their impact on the environment while creating a lush and productive landscape. This is the idea behind the plantings on the Grange property. This was well attended and interesting to those in attendance.

As the Grange nationwide is the oldest farm related fraternity in existence, we in Oxford aim to carry on the tenets of growing things and also in serving the community. The Grange is today first and foremost a service organization which aims to bring people together to fraternize socially as well as to serve the greater community in a variety of ways. We welcome anyone interested in learning more to contact Grange Secretary Robert Buck at 203-267-6796 or email him at equinehusband@aol.com to learn more or to join us.
