Oxford Land Trust Founders Day Celebration!

Free and open to the public, the 2016 OLT's Founder Day celebration includes a guided hike, picnic and live raptor presentation.

Founders’ Day Celebration – 28th year Anniversary 1988-2016

Educational Presentation

This year’s Founders’ Day guest speaker will be Mary-Beth Kaeser, Board President of Horizon Wings, a raptor rehabilitation & education organization located in Ashford, CT; but the real stars of this year’s show are raptors, “Athena” (peregrine falcon, the fastest animal on earth); “Atka,” (a bald eagle, the largest nesting raptor in Connecticut); “Cypress,” (a red-shouldered hawk, common in Connecticut with striking feathers and a distinctive cry), and “Sprite,” ( a northern saw-whet owl whose habitat is threatened in Connecticut). If you would like a preview of these birds, you can visit the organization’s website, www.horizonwings.org. These raptors have been rehabilitated but, due to their injuries, are no longer able to fly and, therefore, are not able to survive on their own. They now have “ambassadorial” status; by being a part of an educational program, they are helping to save additional, injured raptors.
