Oxford Land Trust Honored for 25 Years



Oxford First Selectman George R. Temple presented the Oxford Land Trust with a proclamation last week in honor of the group’s 25th anniversary.

The group was honored for helping to preserve open space in Oxford. 

The organization will hold the Oxford Land Trust Day on June 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Jackson Cove. There will be hiking, a barbecue and a picnic. All are invited to attend.

The following proclamation was given: 

TOWN OF OXFORD

By the Honorable George R. Temple, First Selectman: a         
PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS,
 The Oxford Land Trust was founded on June 8, 1988

WHEREAS,
 The Oxford Land Trust owns approximately 150 acres

WHEREAS
, The Oxford Land Trust has advocated for the town purchase of the Rock House Hill Sanctuary and the Von Wettberg properties, totaling 585 acres.  

WHEREAS
, The Oxford Land Trust has taken second grade students on a hike of the Rock House Hill Sanctuary every year for the past 11 years

WHEREAS,
 The Oxford Land Trust has provided a variety of educational programs

WHEREAS,
 The Oxford Land Trust also lobbied for the state purchase of approximately 330 acres of water company property that now is part of the Naugatuck State Forest

WHEREAS,
 The Oxford Land Trust has worked with the Youth Conservation Corps at Oxford High School and local Boy Scout troops where scouts have earned their Eagle rank

WHEREAS
, The Oxford Land Trust will continue to provide educational programs for the public’s benefit and continue to preserve open space for the future of Oxford

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED
 that in recognition of the 25TH anniversary of the Oxford Land Trust, the Month of June is hereby proclaimed “Oxford Land Trust Month” in the Town of Oxford and in doing so we encourage all residents to help preserve the rural character of Oxford.
