Oxford Man Accused of Joy Riding in Ambulance

EMTs in Danbury were trying to treat a patient when the man jumped in their ambulance and drove off, police say.

Danbury Police have charged an Oxford man with interfering with EMS after the man drove an ambulance from a medical scene in that city on Friday night, according to a police report.

Peter Prunty, 52, hopped in a driver's seat of an ambulance while emergency workers were treating a patient on Sand Pit Road at 8:13 p.m. and drove the vehicle about 50 feet, the report states. Police said Prunty got out of the ambulance, climbed into a car and drove away. EMTs took down the license plate and called police, who quickly located Prunty, according to the report.

Prunty was released on a $500 bond. His court date could not be verified.
