Oxford Newfoundland Owner Pleads Not Guilty

Case is continued at Derby Superior Court until Sept. 21.

As expected, the owner of Newfoundland dogs that attacked and killed another dog at has entered a not guilty plea at Derby Superior Court.

A clerk at the courthouse confirmed to Oxford Patch Thursday that , the dog breeder whose Newfoundland dogs attacked a black Labrador that later died at the vet, has entered not guilty pleas on several misdemeanor charges stemming from the July 26 event and its aftermath. The clerk said the case is continued to Sept. 21 on the pretrial docket.

Tkacz with two counts of obstructing duties of an animal control officer, two counts of failure to obey a quarantine order, four counts of allowing a dog to roam and four counts of having a nuisance animal.

Town officials, who have said they had previous problems with Tkacz's dogs, said she was uncooperative; they have ordered two dogs to be put down on Wednesday, but Tkacz's attorney said he will appeal that order.

Tkacz did not say anything at court today and did not speak to reporters outside, instead having her attorney, , speak for her, according to the Valley Independent Sentinel. Click here to see a video of Tkacz's court appearance from WTNH News 8.

The family of the dog that was killed in the attack, the Severson family of Oxford, has against Tkacz seeking at least $15,000.
