Work is progressing on schedule and the cost will come in under budget for the new turf field and track at Oxford High School.
That’s according to First Selectman George Temple, who responded to questions from Oxford Patch, which had received concerns about the status of the project from citizens.
“We are $300,000 under budget for the track and field, and we’re going to add a Bose announcement system,” he said. “We’re also going to increase the seating capacity.”
The $3.1 million project, which was approved overwhelmingly by voters in August, will be complete by the end of the summer, Temple said. Temple, whose son will be a senior football player this year, plans to have a grand opening on Aug. 25.
He said the track will be rubberized on June 17. There were a few days below 55 degrees, which halted progress on the track, he said.
The only hitch at this point, he said, is that some of the track that was ordered was not the right size but that has since been corrected and didn’t cost Oxford any more money.
He also said the school will add security cameras on the field and are putting more bleachers in so that state playoff games can be held on the field.
“Everything is all set and considerably under budget,” he said.
