Temple Testifies in Support of Oxford Football Coach Keeping His Job: Report

Several people testified in support of the suspended football coach after he was charged with breach of peace in December.

OXFORD, CT — Oxford High School football coach Joseph Stochmal is fighting to keep his job but he's not alone as players, coaches and even the town's top elected official testified in support of the embattled coach, who is on suspension after being charged with breach of peace late last year after an incident at the district's central offices.

A current coach and former player testified how Stochmal, who is also a teacher at the High School, helped push the team to give back to the community, the Republican-American reports. (To sign up for Oxford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Stochmal is undergoing hearings to determine if he will keep his job. Those hearings end Friday. First Selectman George R. Temple testified Monday saying Stochmal is an asset to the community, the Rep-Am reports. Temple said the coach should keep his job and added that Stochmal was very upset that the man who killed his sister in 1984 was being released from jail, the Rep-Am reports.
