ACT of CT In Ridgefield Adds 'Sensory Friendly' Shows For New Season
Accommodations at the performances include lower sound levels, adjusted lighting and the removal of startling special effects.
RIDGEFIELD, CT — ACT of CT has announced the return of "sensory friendly" performances as part of its upcoming 2022-23 season.
The sensory friendly series is designed exclusively for patrons who require adjusted production elements in order to fully enjoy the performance and tickets to these performances are not open to the general public.
Accommodations at the performances include lower sound levels, adjusted lighting and the removal of startling special effects.
In addition, theater house lights will remain on at a low level throughout the performance, and a quiet room will be available for guests wishing to take a break from the performance.
Sensory-friendly productions are designed to provide those on the autism spectrum with an autism friendly environment — a manageable degree of sensory stimuli — which will make them calmer, better able to process the sensory stimulation they receive, and better able to relate to others.
The company's sensory friendly performance of "Guys and Dolls" will be Nov. 13 at 2 p.m., and "The Secret Garden" sensory friendly performance will take place on May 28 at 2 p.m.
The free performances are reserved only for audiences with sensory sensitivities and are not open to the general public. Reservations may be made by contacting the box office at 475-215-5497 or boxoffice@actofct.org.
