Blaze Jumps from Redding Fire Pit, Ignites Hillside: FD
Crews from West Redding Volunteer Fire Department, Redding Fire & EMS and Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the fire.
REDDING, CT — West Redding fire officials are reminding residents not to burn anything outside during the current spring dry season.
The advisory comes following a brush fire Tuesday, caused when flames jumped from a fire pit to a nearby hillside downwind.
Crews from West Redding Volunteer Fire Department, Redding Fire & EMS and Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the incident, which officials say "could’ve been a lot worse" given Tuesday's high winds.

Connecticut traditionally experiences high forest fire danger in the spring from mid-March through May. High winds during this time dry surface fuels and can drive fire to spread quickly, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
