Boys Swimming Remains Undefeated At Home Against Wilton

The Ridgefield boys swimming team beat Wilton 103-82 at home Monday, senior night for a large class of talented swimmers.

Ridgefield boys swimming coach Rory Walker should really bring an extra pair of clothes to the next meet if his team keeps winning.

After a big win against Wilton 103-82 Monday night for an undefeated 8-0 season at home, the team pushed Walker and two other coaches into the Barlow Mountain pool fully clothed, a tradition for the winning Ridgefield team.

The win marked senior night for the boys as well with a large class of 14 seniors swimming a symbolic final lap -- the seniors this year have been part of a continually rising program, winning FCIAC and state individual titles along the way.

Ridgefield took second place in the 200 intermediate medley, as well, with a 2:18.08 effort from Grayson Smith.

"The group of kids we have right now, they're just really talented," Walker said. "We're always competitive with Wilton, and we're coming off an amazing win against Greenwich."

Senior Duryea showcased that talent with a blazing 24.56 in the 50 freestyle, according to Walker.

Three diving seniors took second through fourth with scores of 177.85 out of Eric Peterson, 125.40 out of Bobbie Wendel and 100.65 out of David Scammon.

The next victory came from Klutey again with a 55.64 in the 100 freestyle, and then again in the 200 freestyle relay, joined by Smith, Duryea and Bollerman in 1:40.12.

In their last home 100 breaststroke after four years swimming side by side, Bollerman and Duryea swam side by side once more to tie in 1:12.28.

The meet ended with a win in the 400 freestyle relay from Smith, Szilagyi, Parks and Klutey taking the event in 3:52.41.

"It was a great meet," Walker said. "The boys are working very hard."

The team has another meet Firday at Darien and another Tuesday against Westhill before moving into championship season.
