Press release from Ridgefield Playhouse:
June 26, 2020
“The Boss” is coming to The Ridgefield Playhouse – on the big screen! Bruce Springsteen performs songs from his 2019 studio album, Western Stars, backed by a full orchestra in a thematic concert film. Springsteen fans can see a special screening of Western Stars on Friday, July 3 at 8:30pm as part of the Pepsi Rock Series powered by Xfinity. Set inside Springsteen’s 100-year-old barn at his New Jersey home, one of America’s most revered rock songwriters explores themes of love, loss, and time with a fresh take on the concert film genre that only “The Boss” could pull off. Rolling Stone says “Bruce Springsteen turns a concert film into a transcendental experience.”
"Western Stars" offers Springsteen fans across the country a unique opportunity to see him perform all 13 songs from the critically lauded album—his first studio album in five years. Songs include a cover of Glenn Campbell’s “Rhinestone Cowboy.” Touching on themes of love and loss, loneliness and family and the inexorable passage of time, the documentary film evokes the American West—both the mythic and the hardscrabble—weaving archival footage and Springsteen's personal narration with song to tell the story of Western Stars. Western Stars is written and performed by Bruce Springsteen, with Special Guest Patti Scialfa. Thom Zimny, Jon Landau, Barbara Carr and George Travis produced the film, with Springsteen serving as executive producer. The original score is by Springsteen.
