 World War II and&nbsp;The Aftermath in Europe A review of the war will help us understand how the very alliance that secured victory over the Axis powers evolved into the deadly arms race and threats of the ensuing Cold War.&nbsp;&nbsp;Discussion topics include the Divided Germany, Soviet seizure of territories, and the Iron Curtain. Nancy Maxwell - Instructor Bio: As a student at Cornell, Ms. Maxwell was encouraged to major in Psychology, but her interest in the humanities was always paramount, and her reading of History has taken pride of place.
As a teacher and counselor in an international school in Switzerland for more than twenty years, she had the opportunity to familiarize herself with the palaces and cathedrals of European cities, to savor the extraordinary wealth of artistic treasure that they contain, and to walk in the very footsteps of historical figures.

Memorial Day is a day when you should wear a poppy showing your support and pride in all those who served and gave their all for the freedoms we enjoy today. 
This Saturday May 16th members of the American Legion will be around town where you can obtain a poppy and help them support other veteran and local worthy causes.

First Congregational Church

The Archaeological Society of Connecticut’s Spring Meeting is on Saturday, May 16, at the First Congregational Church, 103 Main Street, Ridgefield, beginning with registration at 9:30 a.m. The daylong program will focus on Revolutionary War archaeology in Connecticut and the Northeast, with presentations by Nicholas Bellantoni, Sarah Sportman, David E. Leslie, Ellery Thomas Leary, and Kevin McBride on topics including Revolutionary War sites, the Rochambeau Camp in Bolton, non-invasive archaeological methods, Putnam Memorial State Park, and new investigations of the Battle of Ridgefield. Following the afternoon presentations, Dr. Kevin McBride and historian Keith Jones will lead a guided tour of the Battle of Ridgefield, highlighting important landmarks and engagement areas, with a reception to follow. Admission is $15 for the general public, $10 for ASC/FOSA members, and $8 for students. The Glass House

Enjoy a rare opportunity to explore The Glass House and its grounds during the&nbsp;Golden Hour.&nbsp;This special two-hour guided tour offers a&nbsp;golden-hour experience&nbsp;of the site and its many distinct architectural landmarks. In addition, see how the&nbsp;lighting design by Richard Kelly&nbsp;– a pioneer and master of modern architectural lighting and a collaborator with Philip Johnson and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe –&nbsp;transforms the Glass House&nbsp;as the sun sinks in the sky.
This tour runs&nbsp;two hours&nbsp;in duration and is formulated to facilitate&nbsp;photography for personal use.&nbsp;It includes access to the Glass House, Brick House, Painting Gallery, Sculpture Gallery, and Da Monsta, with a&nbsp;three-quarter mile walk over paved, grass, and gravel paths.

This tour runs&nbsp;rain or shine.&nbsp;All&nbsp;ticket sales are final.&nbsp;No refunds will be issued, but tickets may be transferred to another date or program.
All&nbsp;tours depart from the Glass House Visitor Center + Design Store&nbsp;located at 199 Elm Street, New Canaan, CT 06840. Visitors are transported to the site in a shuttle which departs promptly.
