Hands-On Ridgefield is a Stop the Bleed Ambassador! We are honored to have Dr. Steven J. Sherry, certified Stop the Bleed instructor and neuroradiologist, of Aegis Defense Concepts, LLC., to provide instruction at our monthly classes. Please note when registering that participants must be 18+.
Come to Hands-On Ridgefield to learn the lifesaving skills to help someone with traumatic bleeding while waiting for emergency medical services (EMS) to arrive.
Hands-On Ridgefield aims to improve the health of the Ridgefield community by making life saving skills easily available to anyone wanting to learn them. French: Beginner, Part 1 - Evening - in Person For people with no or very little knowledge of French who would like to build a solid learning foundation of the language for travel, business, culture . . .&nbsp;Students will discover how English and French are similar in their structure and vocabulary.&nbsp;&nbsp;Text is&nbsp;Learn French the Fast and Fun Way&nbsp;(Barron's 4th Edition. Students will consolidate already acquired vocabulary and strengthen their expression. Discussions between the attendees themselves and the speaker at each session. Topics covered will be linked to daily life, tourism, history, books, health, shopping, etc. There will be references in the classes to grammar, spelling, expressions and conjugation. Gentle Flow Yoga ~ Evening ~ HYBRID - In Person Plus Zoom available.
For beginner/intermediate students looking to deepen their yoga practice. Explore the fundamentals of a flowing yoga practice (vinyasa) as well as traditional poses. Benefits include increased strength, mobility, flexibility along with improved circulation and stress reduction. Increase your awareness of body and breath and end with a deep relaxation (Savasana). Modifications are provided to allow all students to find their own combination of challenge and balance. Please bring a mat, blocks, blanket or towel and a water bottle. Yoga magic in this class brings peace of mind, tension release, and positive energy. Stretching is a good way to keep your body mobile, your joints lubricated, and your body feeling free. Follow the winding trail and discover the cultural/historical influences that have brought us to what we now see on modern stages and movie screens.Michael Langlois is a performer, lecturer and storyteller with decades of experience on stage and off. He has lectured on topics ranging from acting and directing to using one’s passions to bridge divides and engage with others. He has directed across New England, including performances for the Hartford Children’s Theatre, Springfield’s Drama Studio, and the Ashford Youth Theatre, where he worked for nearly 20 years as Artistic Director.

Dancing should be FUN! Learn social dancing to a variety of music for parties, weddings, cruises and dance events. Class size limited. You will learn a sampling of ballroom and club dances, such as basic Rumba, Cha-Cha, East Coast Swing and some club style dances. Great for beginners and for those who have been away from dance for awhile. A fun, no stress way to learn how to move on the dance floor. FOR THOSE GETTING MARRIED AND THEIR FAMILIES AND BRIDAL PARTIES - This is a fantastic, economical way to learn the basic movement/steps before you choreograph your first dance! Want to learn how to take great photos and videos with your iPhone? Lance Whitney will show you how to use all the iPhone’s camera features and modes, how to compose and capture the right shots, and how to use certain effects to enhance your&nbsp;photos. We’ll also look at the Photos tool on the iPhone to teach you how to edit and organize your photos. Please have your iPhone at class so you can try out the different tools and tricks that we cover. This course will guide you to knowing how to take pictures you can be proud of and having a good knowledge of photography in general. All relevant buttons and switches will be explained so that your picture will come out well exposed and sharply focused. Whether you are interested in photographing your friends and family, nature, landscapes or sports, this course will certainly enhance your talents. You will learn how to freeze the action in sports; create beautiful portraits with that blurry background, and use your flash as professional fashion and wedding photographers do.. Flash Photography - (Creating Beautiful Portraiture with Electronic Flash) The electronic flash whether it is built in or one of the more powerful units that can be added to your camera has come a long way in its development. The original flash was created by igniting gunpowder to create a burst of light enabling an image to be recorded. Then the flash bulb was invented and now the modern electronic flash. The light emitted from these units, although extremely useful in that it gives the photographer the ability to create images in conditions where not enough light exists, is far from flattering. This crude light is most obvious when people are the subject. 
This flash photography course will teach you techniques used by professional wedding portrait and fashion photographers. These techniques will enabling you to create portraits most flattering to your subject. You will learn how to mix natural light with your flash to create a soft beautiful light and learning to create this light will give you, as the photographer, the ability to make yourself friend and family look their best in the pictures you take. Pianist David Morgan is a musician for life. For him, it’s music 24/7. After a childhood of playing in rock bands, competing in classical piano competitions, putting on solo Keith Emerson keyboard shows and producing demos on his 4-track cassette recorder, he knew a life of music was the only soulful and logical choice. When he was 19, he moved to New Orleans to study with jazz legends Ellis Marsalis and Harold Battiste at The University of New Orleans. Since migrating to the east coast in 1992, he has had a rich career of touring, recording, producing, writing and teaching. He has recorded and toured the world with his jazz trio, renowned vocalist Neshama Carlebach, Peter Himmelman and actress/songstress Jane Lynch, to name a few. His original music can be heard regularly on CBS and NBC sports telecasts and cable TV shows like Pawn Stars, Catfish, Counting Cars and American Restoration. This past June he was the musical director for the benefit concert, Trevor Live, in New York City.<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-v3UdaYawg" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">youtube.com/watch?v=A-v3UdaYawg</a>
Music Education has become a very important part of Morgan’s career. His rock band training program, The Music Shed is in its 9th season. He developed this program to give middle and high school musicians the opportunity to get extensive coaching in rock, jazz and blues music in a weekly small group setting. Lately, Morgan has been producing and recording his students’ original music and plans to release a Music Shed Artists Vol.1 album in early 2018. He regularly performs and records with his quartet, Portal, a Connecticut band of brothers featuring Greg Wall, Matt Moadel, and Rich Zurkowski.
Eric Halvorson - Drums Eric has performed with John Fedchock, Dave Liebman, Bob Sheppard, Dave Stryker, Donny McCaslin, Steve Slagle, Vic Juris, Scott Robinson, Adam Rogers, Joe Locke, Bruce Barth, Marilyn Maye, Beegie Adair, vocalist Kenny Washington, Fred Hersch, Mark Murphy, James Moody, and Bill Henderson; vocalist Lucy Woodward; toured internationally with Ute Lemper; Broadway stars Sherie Rene Scott and Christine Ebersole; composer Frank Wildhorn; songwriter and pianist Marvin Hamlisch; soul singer Ben E. Yuriy Galkin - Bassist&nbsp;Yurly is an award-winning bassist and composer who has established a formidable reputation in the international jazz scene. A graduate of London’s Royal Academy of Music, Galkin first gained critical acclaim with his 2012 debut album, Nine of a Kind, which led to a successful UK tour with his nonet and earned him praise from Jazzwise and Bass Guitar Magazine as a premier modern composer.
Now based in New York City, Galkin continues to push the boundaries of contemporary improvisation, most notably with his 2019 release, ...For Its Beauty Alone. Produced by David Binney and featuring elite musicians like Matt Mitchell and Rudy Royston, the album has been hailed by publications such as The Guardian and AllAboutJazz for its virtuosic blend of jazz, classical, and ambient influences. Throughout his career, he has performed at world-renowned venues and festivals, including Ronnie Scott’s, the Southbank Centre, and the London Jazz Festival.

On view this year in the Painting Gallery&nbsp;is&nbsp;Tomashi Jackson and Robert Rauschenberg: The Catch One. Featuring newly commissioned paintings by Jackson in dialogue with works by Rauschenberg from the historic site’s permanent collection and the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, the exhibition contributes to a global slate of 2025–26 initiatives that reexamine Rauschenberg’s legacy, honoring his expansive creativity, spirit of curiosity, and commitment to change.
In the Sculpture Gallery,&nbsp;encounter&nbsp;the large-scale works by artists including John Chamberlain, Bruce Nauman, and Frank Stella that were collected by Philip Johnson and David Whitney.
Our expert educators will be available across the site to provide information and answer questions.

The Glass House 49-acre historic site and museum

The Glass House, built between 1949 and 1995 by architect Philip Johnson, is a site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, located in New Canaan, CT. This pastoral 49-acre landscape comprises fourteen structures, including the Glass House, and features a permanent collection of 20th-century painting and sculpture, along with annual contemporary exhibitions.​ Support preservation of a globally significant architectural landmark.
