Want to learn how to take great photos and videos with your iPhone? Lance Whitney will show you how to use all the iPhone’s camera features and modes, how to compose and capture the right shots, and how to use certain effects to enhance your photos. We’ll also look at the Photos tool on the iPhone to teach you how to edit and organize your photos. Please have your iPhone at class so you can try out the different tools and tricks that we cover. Instructor Lance Whitney is a technology journalist and the author of the book book “Teach Yourself Visually LinkedIn.” He’s also written a book on Windows 8. He currently writes for TechRepublic, ZDNet, PCMag, and other technology sites. Previously, he was a system administrator with Ciba Specialty Chemicals. He's taught a variety of continuing education courses at Ridgefield Continuing Education for several years.

Basic Digital Camera Operation 
Need help understanding how to use your DSLR camera? Is the instruction manual that came with it almost impossible to understand? bring your DSLR or mirrorless camera and manual to this class. This course will guide you to knowing how to take pictures you can be proud of and having a good knowledge of photography in general. All relevant buttons and switches will be explained so that your picture will come out well exposed and sharply focused. Whether you are interested in photographing your friends and family, nature, landscapes or sports, this course will certainly enhance your talents. You will learn how to freeze the action in sports; create beautiful portraits with that blurry background, and use your flash as professional fashion and wedding photographers do.&nbsp; You'll become truly confident in your picture taking abilities. Instructor John Zappala has a degree in fine arts and many years of experience as a photographer and photography instructor.

 Flash Photography - (Creating Beautiful Portraiture with Electronic Flash) The electronic flash whether it is built in or one of the more powerful units that can be added to your camera has come a long way in its development. The original flash was created by igniting gunpowder to create a burst of light enabling an image to be recorded. Then the flash bulb was invented and now the modern electronic flash. The light emitted from these units, although extremely useful in that it gives the photographer the ability to create images in conditions where not enough light exists, is far from flattering. This crude light is most obvious when people are the subject. This flash photography course will teach you techniques used by professional wedding portrait and fashion photographers. These techniques will enabling you to create portraits most flattering to your subject. You will learn how to mix natural light with your flash to create a soft beautiful light and learning to create this light will give you, as the photographer, the ability to make yourself friend and family look their best in the pictures you take. Make Room for Natives: Sharing the Environment with Wildlife There has been a lot of hype about “Natives ”in the past year or so.&nbsp; Jackie Algon's class will explore what native plants are and why they are important. For beginning or fairly-new gardeners, we will start with the basics: getting your soil ready, removing invasive plants from your property, assessing what is already growing in your yard and what you can consider adding or deleting from it, the New Best Practices for gardening that will help make your garden more sustainable, resilient and functional not only for the aesthetics that please humans, but also for the support of wildlife and ecology.&nbsp;Instructor, Jackie Algon is an Advanced CT Master Gardener and Gardening Lecturer, a Board member of the Pollinator Pathway.  Sleepy Time for Gardens:Putting Your Gardens to Bed This Autumn Many gardeners in the past spent a lot of time in their gardens in the Autumn, preparing them for over wintering.&nbsp; New Best Practices advise significant changes in the way we approach these tasks.&nbsp; If we follow these recommendations, we will save ourselves much effort while providing wildlife a restful Winter during which they can complete his class will explore the reasons for the new methods from the bottom (roots and soil) up and from the top (canopy) down.&nbsp; We will consider planting options for the cool of Autumn, including some specific shrubs, trees, and perennials, as well as ground covers and determine why layering our property is a healthful strategy for the environment.&nbsp; Instructor Jackie Algon&nbsp;is an Advanced Master Gardener and a Board member of the Pollinator Pathway.&nbsp; She has also taught many classes in the CT Master Gardener program.

Mushroom Walk with Mycologist, Zaac Chaves Grab a notebook and join Zaac Chaves on a mycologically focused ecological tour at a state park&nbsp;Ridgefield (a different state park than we have used in the past). During this outing we will identify seasonal mushrooms. You will help us catalog species (including possibly rare sightings) and even help document increasing evidence of climate change locally. No experience required. Zaac Chaves works on species surveys for several sites and sometimes with organizations including Harvard University, the New York Botanical Gardens, and the National Parks Service. We have found several new species at many sites and are also helping recognize others which are rare and disappearing. The Brewster Summer Music Series invites the community to celebrate the final
concert of the 2026 season on	Wednesday, August 5	, with an unforgettable evening featuring	Lulada Club , an electrifying all-women salsa orchestra bringing the vibrant sounds of Cali, Colombia, to New

York City—and now to Brewster. Led by vocalist and musical director	Andrea Chavarro	, Lulada Club has quickly become one of New York

City's most exciting Latin music ensembles. Founded in 2022, the orchestra was inspired by Chavarro's hometown of	Cali, Colombia	, widely recognized as the world's salsa capital. Seeing a lack of women-led

salsa orchestras in New York's live music scene, she assembled a remarkable group of accomplished musicians to create a high-energy band that celebrates the rich traditions of tropical music while forgingits own distinctive sound.


Known for their dynamic performances, Lulada Club breathes new life into classic salsa, bolero, and cha-cha-cha while also performing original compositions that honor the music's legendary roots. Their infectious rhythms, exceptional musicianship, and joyful stage presence promise an evening of dancing and entertainment for audiences of all ages and experience levels.



To celebrate another successful season, the evening will also feature	Sponsor Recognition Night	,honoring the local businesses whose generous support made the 2026 Brewster Summer Music Seriespossible. The series will also recognize its Community Partners, including	Brewster Cares	, which will be collecting non-perishable food donations to help local families in need.



Bring your family, invite your friends, and join your neighbors for one final summer evening of great music, community spirit, and celebration. Whether you're an experienced salsa dancer or simply looking for a fun night out, Lulada Club will provide the perfect finale to another outstanding Brewster Summer Music Series season.



The Brewster Summer Music Series is presented by the Town of Southeast Cultural Arts Coalition and is free and open to the public. Concerts are held at the gazebo in Southeast Veterans Park in Brewster.

Come help us close out the summer with music, dancing, and community as we celebrate another memorable season together.

The Brewster Summer Music Series continues to bring outstanding local,regional, and nationally recognized musicians to downtown Brewster. Presented by the Town of Southeast Cultural Arts Coalition, the free, family-friendly concerts invite residents and visitors alike to gather for great music and community spirit. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy an evening of exceptional live entertainment under the summer sky.




The Brewster Summer Music Series is one of many programs of the Town of Southeast Cultural Arts Coalition, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating and sustaining cultural arts in the region. Since 2010, the Coalition has led the restoration of the historic Southeast Old Town Hall while presenting hundreds of cultural events through the Studio Around the Corner, the Old Town Hall Theater,​and other local venues. Enjoy a summer evening exploring The Glass House at your own pace! During your&nbsp;self-guided visit&nbsp;to the campus, you will have free access to the&nbsp;Glass House, Brick House, Painting Gallery, and Sculpture Gallery.
On view this year in the Painting Gallery&nbsp;is&nbsp;Tomashi Jackson and Robert Rauschenberg: The Catch One. Featuring newly commissioned paintings by Jackson in dialogue with works by Rauschenberg from the historic site’s permanent collection and the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, the exhibition contributes to a global slate of 2025–26 initiatives that reexamine Rauschenberg’s legacy, honoring his expansive creativity, spirit of curiosity, and commitment to change.
In the Sculpture Gallery,&nbsp;encounter&nbsp;the large-scale works by artists including John Chamberlain, Bruce Nauman, and Frank Stella that were collected by Philip Johnson and David Whitney.
Our expert educators will be available across the site to provide information and answer questions.
Please note that all guests&nbsp;will need to exit The Glass House property by 8 PM.
