The Brewster Carmel Garden Club Standard Flower Show entitled "America the Beautiful--250 Years" will be held Friday, Aug. 21 from 2 - 4:00 pm and&nbsp; Saturday, August 22 from 10 am - 4 pm.
The show will be located at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2103 Route 6, Brewster, NY.&nbsp; Enter on Old Route 6, turn on Husted Road where you'll see the church parking lot and entrance to the building.
In addition to displays of garden flowers, herbs, vegetables, potted plants, and terrariums, there will be educational displays, botanical arts creations and numerous floral arrangements vying for ribbons in this fun, competitive event.
A highlight of this free event is the club's incredible Chinese Auction where participants place their purchased raffle tickets in the bags in front of the item(s) they're interested in winning.
So, mark your calendars and plan to join the members of your local community gardeners at this totally free event. Whether you are an avid gardener or just want to see some breathtaking blooms and catch up with friends, there’s something for everyone. Come for the flowers, stay for the community!

Mushroom Walk with Mycologist, Zaac Chaves Grab a notebook and join Zaac Chaves on a mycologically focused ecological tour in Ridgefield on Sunday,&nbsp;May 31 at 5 p.m. at a town or&nbsp;state park location in Ridgefield.&nbsp;&nbsp;During this outing we will identify seasonal mushrooms. You will help us catalog species (including possibly rare sightings) and even help document increasing evidence of climate change locally. No experience required. Zaac Chaves works on species surveys for several sites and sometimes with organizations including Harvard University, the New York Botanical Gardens, and the National Parks Service. We have found several new species at many sites and are also helping recognize others which are rare and disappearing. He also serves as the chief editor of the Boston Mycological Club Bulletin, established in 1897. 1 Session $ 29 (Ridgefield Sr./Disab. $ 25) Sun., 10/18 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Directions to class location in Ridgefield will be emailed on 10/15 or 16.&nbsp;

Craft Your Own Fall or Holiday Wreath 
Welcome the season with a beautiful, handcrafted wreath! In this 1 1/2 hour workshop, you'll get all supplies (flowers, greenery, ribbon) to decorate a winter wreath to take home. Perfect for all skill levels – just bring your creativity. Spaces are limited, sign up now! A supply fee of approximately $19 to 21 will be collected at the first class. Class size limited. 
 
Instructor Valerie Kirincich graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology with a BFA in Illustration and the New York Academy of Art with a MFA in Figurative Fine Art. Upon graduation, she freelanced as an illustrator and worked for several Manhattan ad agencies as a graphic designer and art director. She is currently the full time art teacher at Greenwich Catholic School. Valerie believes that art is not only about technical skill, but about discovering a new way to see the world. She enjoys teaching and motivating students of all ages to learn and grow through art!
