 The Creation of Italy A visitor to Italy today travels freely about to explore the prized cities of Florence, Naples, Rome, and Venice. But it was not always so easy: Italy is a relatively new country, and the fabled cities may indeed be regarded as prizes, because they did not all join Italy willingly! It took a combination of the wily statesman Camillo Cavour, the political activism of the secret revolutionary Giuseppe Mazzini, and the romantic nationalism of Giuseppe Garibaldi – none of whom wanted to work together - to draw disparate “Italians” together. And even that wasn’t quite enough. Napoleon III and Bismarck had something to add. This presentation will look at the remarkable personalities and events that led to the emergence of a unified Italy in 1871. Instructor: Nancy Maxwell. The Creation of Germany&nbsp; Perhaps because of her dominant role in two world wars, it is easy to think of Germany as an old nation with a long history. But Germany is a young state, less than 150 years old. The original territory was divided into myriad small holdings ruled by independent noble families and surrounded by the powerful states of Austria and France; the path to unification would be blocked by all of these. Despite earlier attempts, it took the rise of Otto von Bismarck, with his cunning, wisdom, and political acuity, to overcome all these obstacles and establish the German Empire. This class will consider the events and personalities that led to the creation of the German Empire. Instructor: Nancy Maxwell. Mah Jongg for Beginners - New Classes Starting Fall 2026

One bam . . . two crack! Never heard those words? In this course you'll not only learn what they mean, but will discover an exciting game that is experiencing a resurgence in popularity. When you take this class, you will learn from square one. Or should I say tile one! This primer is very basic and will have you playing in no time. Attendance at the first three classes is a must. You will learn rules of the game as sanctioned by the National Mah Jongg League. Please bring the 2026 National Mah Jongg League card to the first class (see notes below). If you own a Mah Jongg set bring it to class (do not run out and buy one). Come join me to learn this entertaining, social and most enjoyable game. Instructor Sybl Falik started playing Mah Jongg as a young mother, as a way to socialize. Quickly Mah Jongg became a passion, and she used this game to meet friends by teaching the game to women. Feng Shui Walk in Ridgefield Come follow the path of energy through Ridgefield. After learning the principles of feng shui - how chi flows, the power of opposites, yin/yang, and the alchemy of the five elements - Christine Persche, feng shui and design specialist, will lead a walk through the heart of town and see its applications everywhere. A good way to practice looking through a feng shui lens to help illuminate and bring balance to your own living and working spaces. Instructor Christine Persche is a design librarian, certified Feng Shui consultant, graduate of Pratt Institute, and LEED Accredited Professional. REDDING CENTER, CT — A Redding tradition returns this fall as the First Church of Christ, Congregational welcomes the community to its 44th Annual Artisan Fair on Saturday, September 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
For more than four decades, the Artisan Fair has brought together neighbors, families, and visitors from across Fairfield County for a day filled with handcrafted artwork, delicious homemade food, live entertainment, shopping, children’s activities, and one of the area’s largest community tag sales. Church volunteers will once again serve fresh apple pie, homemade Congregational soup, grilled burgers, pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, sausage and peppers, veggie burgers, fries, popcorn, refreshing drinks, and other delicious treats throughout the day.
Guests can also purchase seasonal mums, pumpkins, gourds, and cornstalks while enjoying live entertainment on the church grounds.

The Keelers are a music duo from Redding, CT who entangle harmonies, old and new songs, and community connection.
Enchanted Garden Dancers (12:00 PM -12:45 PM)&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Returning by popular demand, the Enchanted Garden Dancers will once again delight our audience with energetic performances showcasing a variety of dance styles that captivated Fairgoers last year.

Snakeskin Boots Band (1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.) 
Snakeskin Boots Band is an American Country Rock Band from Fairfield County Connecticut, with a mix of original songs and covers. Their voices and musical songwriting style bring a unique sound. Kurt's rich, deep rocking quality, and Helen's warm soulful touches fill a distinctive sound into our music. Performances are filled with energy and passion, showcasing chemistry on stage.

Guiding Eyes guide dogs and puppies in our Puppy Raising program that are appropriate for public access are welcome to attend, as are other ADA-recognized service dogs trained for public access.
