Flash Photography - (Creating Beautiful Portraiture with Electronic Flash) The electronic flash whether it is built in or one of the more powerful units that can be added to your camera has come a long way in its development. The original flash was created by igniting gunpowder to create a burst of light enabling an image to be recorded. Then the flash bulb was invented and now the modern electronic flash. The light emitted from these units, although extremely useful in that it gives the photographer the ability to create images in conditions where not enough light exists, is far from flattering. This crude light is most obvious when people are the subject. This flash photography course will teach you techniques used by professional wedding portrait and fashion photographers. These techniques will enabling you to create portraits most flattering to your subject. You will learn how to mix natural light with your flash to create a soft beautiful light and learning to create this light will give you, as the photographer, the ability to make yourself friend and family look their best in the pictures you take. Instructor John Zappala has a degree in fine arts and many years of experience as a photographer and photography instructor. 2 Sessions $ 54 (Ridgefield Sr./Disab. $ 46) Mon., 11/9 and 16 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at East Ridge Middle School.

Ridgefield Library has partnered with RVNAhealth to introduce a New! monthly Memory Café, held at the Library and created as a welcoming hour of shared activities, conversation, and connection for individuals living with memory changes and the care partners who support them
Memory Cafés began in Holland in the late 1990s as a simple idea: create a friendly, social setting where people experiencing memory changes and those who care for them could gather, enjoy familiar activities, and spend time together in a relaxed, supportive environment. Today, Memory Cafés are found worldwide and are designed for people living with memory changes and their care partners to enjoy together.
Each Memory Café offers a chance to step away from appointments, schedules, and daily responsibilities and simply enjoy time together. The hour includes a thoughtful mix of easy, enjoyable activities and time to socialize.
A defining part of this partnership is the involvement of RVNAhealth Dementia Specialist, Danielle Taibi, who offers a supportive and welcoming environment, focused on enjoyment, connection, and shared activities.
Guests are asked to attend with their care partner, who will stay with them for the full hour.
