RIDGEFIELD, CT — The 2023 municipal election is heating up in Ridgefield and there are plenty of races with candidates eager to serve in elected office.

Ridgefield Patch asked candidates to answer questions about their campaigns and will be publishing candidate profiles as Election Day draws near.

President of investment and advisory firm G58 Capital, Stan Galanski, 65, is running for re-election to the Ridgefield Board of Assessment Appeals as a Democrat. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh and has been married to Susanne for 40 years. The couple has three adult children and three grandchildren.

Have you ever held a public office, whether appointive or elective?

I am currently in the fourth year of a four year term on the Board of Assessment Appeals and was appointed in November 2022 to the Town of Ridgefield Insurance and Risk Management Committee.

Why are you seeking this office?

I am seeking re-election to the Board of Assessment Appeals to give-back to the wonderful community and to leverage both my business skills and my four years on the board for the benefit of taxpayers

Transparency in the assessment process and having an opportunity to be heard. By continuing to serve on the board, I bring an unbiased view and a willingness to listen.

What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?

My commitment is to represent the taxpayers in a manner that is equitable, transparent and user-friendly.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

As a CEO of two publicly traded insurance carriers, I have a breadth of experience ranging from property valuation to regulatory compliance to investment management. Most importantly, the willingness to listen and to provide an objective assessment of each appeal.

What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?

If you do what you love, your job will never seem like work.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

The Board of Assessment Appeals is inherently non-partisan. We provide the vehicle for taxpayers to appeal the assessment on their properties without having to incur legal costs or go to court. Our mission is to listen; understand; and make an objective determination of the taxpayers appeal. Integrity matters. I have been honored to serve on the board for the last four years and hope the voters will allow me to do so again for the next four years.
