COVID-19 In Ridgefield: 179 Confirmed Cases, 34 Deaths

RIDGEFIELD, CT — The Connecticut Department of Public Health has confirmed that 179 cases of the new coronavirus have been reported in Ridgefield as of Friday. Health Director Ed Briggs reports there have been 34 deaths attributed to COVID-19, all but two from nursing homes and assisted care facilities.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Connecticut has reached 27,700, there are 2,257 deaths and 1,650 hospitalizations. Over the past 24 hours, Connecticut saw another 933 positive cases, 89 new deaths and 41 less new hospital admissions.

Gov. Ned Lamont said the financial impact of the new coronavirus on Connecticut is very "sobering." Connecticut is facing a $900 million budget shortfall before the end of the fiscal year, which ends June 30. And in fiscal year 2020-21, Connecticut is staring at a $2.3 billion budget shortfall.
