Astronomy; Summer Sky

Join us for an astronomy program to view the summer night sky.  As twilight turns to darkness we hope to view the planets Saturn, Mars and Venus in a close formation in the western sky.  While they will appear close, close is a misnomer as the three will be roughly 900, 190 and 70 million miles away, respectively.  Mercury is also in the same vicinity, but may not be high enough in the sky to see.  The moon will be close to first quarter, an opportune time for viewing as the angle of the sunlight creates dramatic images. During the summer evenings our side of earth is facing towards the center of the Milky Way which is rich in nebulae.

You may want to bring a lawn chair and binoculars, if you have them, and bug spray.  In case of inclement weather or cloud cover please check our website or call 203-438-1063 for cancellation info. Co-sponsored with New Pond Farm.  The program is $6 per member and $18 maximum per member family, and $8 per non-member and $24 maximum per non-member family.
