James Russell Martin, 67, of Seattle, Washington, passed away on June 1, 2026, after a long illness. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on April 1, 1959, to Mary Ellen and Russell Martin, Jim grew up in Ridgefield, Connecticut. Over the course of his life, he also lived for several years in Sandy Hook, Connecticut, and more than 15 years in Austin, Texas. Jim most recently relocated to Seattle.

Jim was known for his love of classic automobiles and music. An accomplished carpenter, he spent much of his life restoring vintage cars, most notably his beloved red vintage Datsun 280z. This hobby allowed him to form a close-knit community of friends and fellow car enthusiasts. His love of music was just as profound, often providing the soundtrack to the many gatherings of friends and family that filled his home.

His personality was as vibrant as the cars he restored, and his house was always filled with laughter, friends, and music. Jim's love for his hobbies, his warmth, sense of humor, and the friendships he fostered are what many will remember most about him.

He is survived by his wife Dana Harvell; his daughter, Callista Olivier (Hugo Velazquez); his grandson, Kross Velazquez; his brothers, John Martin and Dan Martin (Crystal); and his sisters, Tess Riegel (Ted) and Gigi DiLillo (Dave); a niece, Jessica Martin McHardy; and three nephews –Dr. George Riegel IV, Ryan DiLillo, and Timothy DiLillo. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ellen Martin; his father, Russ Martin; and his brother, Thomas Martin.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Jim at St. Peter's Cemetery in Danbury, CT on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 10:00 am. In honor of Jim's love for classic cars, attendees are invited to bring a classic Matchbox car in lieu of flowers.

Jim's life was a testament to his love for his family, friends, and passions. His memory will continue to bring joy to those who knew him, just as his life did. His spirit, like the classic cars he so loved, will endure and inspire for generations to come.
