Man Stole Car, Led Police On Chase: State Police

Police say the man also had methamphetamine and marijuana, as well as two passengers in the car.

WATERBURY, CT — A Waterbury man was arrested after he allegedly stole a car from Ridgefield and tried to evade police on I-84, according to state police. Cornelius Coney, 29, of Waterbury faces charges of reckless driving and drug possession after he was stopped just before Exit 17 on I-84 West.

State police say troopers responded to I-84 for reports of erratic driving of a black Audi, and waited for the Audi to pass them. They did not try to stop the Audi immediately because they were entering a construction zone, but Coney sped off after exiting the construction zone.

A fellow state trooper slowed traffic and troopers were able to stop Coney, who had two passengers in the car. Coney had a suspended license, and was also found with marijuana and methamphetamine. Police also found that the car was stolen out of Ridgefield

Coney was charged with driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance, misuse of plates, engaging police in a chase, reckless driving, driving an unregistered vehicle, two counts of reckless endangerment, larceny in the second degree, possession of a narcotic substance, possession of marijuana under a half ounce.

Coney posted a $50,000 bond and is due in court on Nov. 8.
