NYC Celeb Sculptress to Speak in Ridgefield
Meredith Bergmann is creating the first statues of real women in NYC'S Central Park.

RIDGEFIELD, CT - From Ridgefield Library: Central Park’s collection of historical monuments and sculptures are rightfully well-known and well-loved: a Polish king. A Venezuelan military leader. A Prussian naturalist. Even a sled dog. But not a single woman.
That will finally change in 2020 when award-winning sculptor Meredith Bergmann installs the
Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony Woman Suffrage Movement Monument, honoring the right to vote, at the Central Park Mall.
On Sunday, November 18 th at the Ridgefield Library in Ridgefield, CT Bergmann will show images of work from her 40-year career as a sculptor who seeks out public commissions that explore issues of history, race, human rights, disabilities, and the power of poetry and music. She will talk about her creative process, the research that inspires her to bring history to life, and some of the many issues involved with competing for commissions and making public monuments, including the Boston Women’s Memorial, the September 11th Memorial for the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, the FDR Hope Memorial in New York City, and she will exhibit a small model of the upcoming Elizabeth Cady Stanton and The Susan B. Anthony Woman Suffrage Movement Monument for New York City's Central Park.
